There are 285 million people affected by visual impairment. Among them, 39 million are blind, and within that, 1.4 million are children under the age of 15.
80% of blinding diseases are avoidable. The OPC has been fighting against these diseases since 1978. In this section you can read more about these diseases, which include : refractive errors, cataracts, infected neo-natal conjunctivitis, visual impairment, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), onchocerciasis, diabetic retinopathy, trachoma, ocular trauma, and glaucoma.
