Will you be part of the campaign to end avoidable blindness by 2020 ?

A few things you need to know about avoidable blindness…

- 39 million people are blind
- 90% of blind people live in the developing world
- 31 million people are avoidably blind
- We have the knowledge and medicine to successfully treat them...
- But not enough staff and resources.

The World Health Organization and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) have set up the VISION 2020 initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness by 2020. The OPC is a member of this programme, which involves many different NGOs, professional associations, eye care institutions and corporations.

Eliminating avoidable blindness is an important step towards achieving the millennium development goals. By helping the OPC to train staff, provide preventative medication and treat patients with visual impairment, you can help eradicate avoidable blindness.
